What are the chances that Croatia will declare itself as an opponent of Chat Control?
The National Weekly reported in last week's edition that Prime Minister Plenkovic is willing to reconsider the position of the Republic of Croatia towards chat control, citing a source close to the Prime Minister, which I think is good and necessary. But for Croatia to speak out against the current balance of power will not be enough for a qualified minority to block the proposal in the Council of the EU, other member states are also needed, and primarily Germany which is still waiting.
Do you think as a society we're going according to Orwell's script? I'm literally shocked by the chat control law, its content, and I'm still more shocked at how many politicians vote for such proposals, how did we get to that point as a society?
Politicians differ - some are lazy and disinterested, some are only there to vote as their home parties tell them, some are overcrowded at a given moment and some essential point is missed. What is important is that the public and citizens follow their work and key topics and inform and direct them in time because you are the ones who have mandated and entrusted us. What is important to know is that in the last convocation, when it last voted on chat control, the EP took a clear position against this proposal, almost unanimously regardless of political and ideological differences, and with this position embarked on negotiations with the Commission and the Council of the EU.
