We won the first round in the fight against the housing crisis in the EU!

The housing crisis is an unprecedented social and economic challenge that requires better coordination between local and national authorities.

The shocking fact is that rents have risen by over 25% in the last 10 years, property prices by as much as 50%, and every tenth EU citizen has to allocate more than 40% of their income for housing. That is why it is important that, as shadow rapporteur, I worked on two key reports in the REGI Committee — one on the role of cohesion policy investment in tackling the housing crisis and the other on cohesion's support for a just transition.

I fought for:

- Increase in EU funds for affordable housing
- Greater role of cities and local authorities in the management of funds
- Exclusion of investments in social and non-profit housing from fiscal restrictions
- Investment in housing that does not jeopardize the achievement of climate goals

The housing crisis is an unprecedented social and economic challenge that requires better coordination between local and national authorities. This report recognises this and is a key document of the European Parliament which, for the FIRST time in this mandate, defines its positions on how to deal with the housing crisis in the European Union.
