The governments of Spain, Slovenia, France, Denmark and other countries have realized that loneliness, depression, anxiety in children are a public health problem and that they need to regulate social networks just like all other means of addiction.
Kids don't stand a chance against the algorithms. They're programmed that way. To create an addiction on which the richest people in the world, like Zuckerberg, stuff their pockets. Content in a couple of clicks goes from cute puppies to encouraging anorexia and embracing bullies like Andrew Tate. Children are not “addicted to cell phones” because they are lazy or spoiled, but because they're exposed to a system that knows more about their brains than we do and uses that information against them.
They are exposed to covert advertising, misinformation, distorted representations of reality and violence, without anyone giving them adequate context to understand. The result of constant comparison, feelings of inadequacy, sleep and attention disorders, anxiety, depression, and exposure to content that promotes self-harm and eating disorders, and online violence.
