On Friday, 21 March, as a Member of the European Parliament, I had the opportunity to participate in a meeting in the Parliament of the Federation of BiH on the topic “LGBTI human rights in BiH through the prism of EU integration”. The meeting brought together representatives of the FBiH Parliament and civil society to discuss the challenges and opportunities for improving the human rights of LGBTI persons in the process of BiH's accession to the European Union.
I shared Croatia's experiences along the way, especially with regard to legislative reforms and advocacy initiatives that contributed to the affirmation of human rights. I also stressed the importance of institutional cooperation between the civil sector and legislatures and the need for greater involvement of the European Parliament in supporting the candidate countries in this area.
At the meeting, we came to the conclusion that strengthening cooperation between the FBiH Parliament and civil society organizations is crucial for further progress. I am particularly pleased that the representatives of the Parliament of the FBiH signed the Declaration on the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights, thus demonstrating a clear commitment to this goal.
