Our task is to preserve peace on the European continent, because peace is not only a gift of the past, but an obligation of all of us today.
We held a solemn ceremony in the European Parliament, and it was a special honour for me to meet the anti-fascist fighters Robert Chot (102), Janusz Komorowski (95), and Janusz Maksymowicz (96), who reminded us that 80 years ago anti-fascists rose up all over Europe and defeated fascism.
The anti-fascist forces that united for these values of peace, equality and prosperity are the foundation of the European Union and Croatia, which, thanks to the partisans, was on the winning side.
But the victory over a criminal ideology based on ethnic and racial purity in today's context seems very fragile. Our task is to preserve peace on the European continent, because peace is not only a gift of the past, but an obligation of all of us today.
